Derek Schimming is the Co-Founder and Lead Trader of TradingFX bringing over 24 years of experience to the trading community. Derek began his financial career 1988 as a Registered Representative and Financial Consultant. Enjoying a very successful business practice as a licensed broker, Mr Schimming increased his client relationships significantly and grew his asset base by an average of over $4 million dollars per month month during his career. By the time Derek made the decision to resign from his brokerage position to become a professional trader, he was personally managing over $250 million in client assets and was in the top one percentile with the firm.
Over the next 2 years Derek became a student of trading and was mentored by Harvey Houtkin, who is regarded as the father of electronic trading and was the first person to enter a trade electronically using the SOES system with no other intention than to make a short term day trading profit. Under Harvey's guidance Derek quickly become a standout protege and avid trader. Derek also formed additional relationships and traveled to trade with others giving him the opportunity to participate with different trading personalities and experience a variety of trading strategies, styles and techniques, both successful and unsuccessful. It was through this experience that Derek gained a massive amount of knowledge and something he believes to this day has been one of the major keys to his strong trading foundation and success.
Several of Derek's former colleagues asked him to teach them how to actively trade the financial markets, so with Harvey's blessing and assistance, plus with a strong desire to make his trading activity a more serious venture, Derek opened a small trading office where he and a few select individuals gathered daily to trade together and learn the techniques and rules he had developed and was following so successfully. Very quickly the group realized Derek had a true talent and gift for teaching others, while at the same time he found had a passion for helping others traders learn and succeed. So in 1996 Derek expanded his trading floor operation and made his training services available to the public. Derek's early involvement clearly identifies him as one of the pioneers of the electronic trading industry and an authority on the subject of trading. By word or mouth and some positive press his firm grew rapidly, grossing over 1 million in revenues in the first year and ultimately becoming one of the largest privately owned equity trading floors in the United States, with over 100 trading stations on the main floor.
As the demand grew Derek expanded his business to a second location and became a minor partner and/or consultant in several other trading offices in the US. By this time his training and mentoring services were in high demand and he traveled to conduct training classes and work with trading groups firsthand. As a respected person in the industry, Derek received numerous invitations to speak at industry events and symposiums. Derek is one of a handful of traders who has been asked to testify before a congressional subcommittee and speak to industry regulation boards about active trading and provide his insight on how to improve the industry. Over the years he has also been asked to beta test various trading software programs and trading tools in development from different providers.
Partnering with Daniel Higley and combining their business operations, Derek and Dan sold their retail trading division to a New York based brokerage and shifted their operations to the institutional side of the industry, where they were soon servicing some of the largest and most notable names in the hedge fund industry. Derek and Dan were instrumental in creating and marketing the entire Buy Side division of a major institutional software/execution provider, and in less then 2 years the firm was purchased by Citigroup. However, during this time Derek and Dan realized their real passion was working with individuals. So in 2006 they converted their focus to the Foreign Currency arena and quickly set out to enhanced the many benefits of this highly liquid 24 hour global marketplace for individuals. By early 2007 Derek and Dan had already laid the ground work for TradingFX and were working toward the opening of their unique vision to change the Forex industry. In 2008 Derek and Dan launched TradingFX and the firm has been growing steadily ever since.
TradingFX offers 4 distinct services for new and experienced traders: The state of the art tradingFX charting software program and 24 Hour Online Trade Room, plus the Traders First Training and continuing education program, along with the TradingFX institutional grade bank-to-client electronic trade execution system. Additionally, Derek and Dan are developing several service divisions under the TradingFX umbrella: TFX Capital, a financial planning division, TFX Advisory, a mutual fund advisory service and TFX Charities, a charitable trading account that donates its profits along with 5% of the firms revenue to select causes. Derek and Dan also formed the TFX Affiliates to help grow their firm via client referrals and as a way to thank those who participate.
